Senator Charles "Mac" Mathias Dies

Former Senator Charles "Mac" Mathias, Republican of Maryland, has passed away. Mathias was frequently at odds with his fellow Republicans--not the least, President Richard Nixon^∇--something reflected in the conversations in the Nixon tapes in which he is mentioned. See, for example:
