LBJ's death.

H.R. "Bob" Haldeman∇: Hello?

Operator: Dr. [Walter] Tkach.

Haldeman: Thank you.

Walter Tkach: Bob?

Haldeman: Yes, [unclear].

Tkach: I just talked to General Vogel--

Haldeman: Yeah.

Tkach: --at the hospital, and Mrs. [Lady Bird] Johnson's already there. And he--the President--former President [Lyndon] Johnson's in transit in an ambulance to the airport, and the hospital--there are no communications in the ambulance so he can't tell me a damn thing about whether he's alive or dead.

Haldeman: For God's sake.

Tkach: He's going to call me immediately as soon as he sees him.

Haldeman: OK.

Tkach: Have you got any more than that?

Haldeman: Mrs. Johnson's at the hospital?

Tkach: Right, sir.

President Nixon can be heard in the background but his words cannot be made out clearly.

Haldeman: She--how'd she get there ahead of him?

Tkach: I don't know. She may have been in the area.

Haldeman: Yeah.

Tkach: Because he came on the fixed wing [aircraft] from Johnson City to the International [airport] and an ambulance took him to the hospital.

Haldeman: He's in the ambulance now?

Tkach: Right, sir.

Haldeman: And he'll call you as soon as he knows?

Tkach: Yes, sir.

Haldeman: OK.

Tkach: [Unclear.] OK, Bob.
