White House Tapes . Presidential Recordings Program

The bulk of the Johnson meeting tapes, recorded mainly in the Cabinet Room, have not yet been processed by the Johnson Library. A small selection of extracts related to Easten Europe were released in November 1996 for the publication of the Department of State's Foreign Relations of the United States volume on the topic (FRUS 1964-68, volume 11; see, for example, document 75). These extracts were released on one tape numbered as SC.01.

There is no finding aid available as yet. 

Which Audio Format?

The sound files can be downloaded in two formats: FLAC and MP3. Each has benefits for different uses.

MP3: good sound reproduction, smaller files, universally compatible. Very good for telephone or Dictabelt recordings and for general listening. If in doubt, try the MP3 versions first.

FLAC: excellent sound reproduction, larger files, growing compatibility. Recommended for meeting recordings and transcribing where the highest sound quality is required. In terms of sound quality, FLAC files are identical to WAV or AIFF files.
