President Nixon: Yeah.

Operator: I have [Treasury] Secretary [John B.] Connally.

President Nixon: Hello.

John Connally: Yes, sir.

President Nixon: Hi, John.

Connally: How are you?

President Nixon: I'm sitting here talking with [Agriculture Secretary] Cliff Hardin and [Office of Emergency Preparedness Director] Abe Lincoln about the Texas trip. 1 They're going to leave tomorrow.

Connally: Yes, sir.

President Nixon: [White House aide] Pete Flannigan's with them.

Connally: Yes, sir.

President Nixon: I think it would be a good thing if they just came over to your shop when they finish here in a few minutes, and check in with you and show you, you know, they've got the maps and the places they're going to go and the things they're going to do and so forth. And I've just told them that we just released 10 million [dollars] from the budget from something or other. In OMB [Office of Management and Budget] we got that done.

Connally: All right.

President Nixon: But would you do that?

Connally: Yes, sir.

President Nixon: Because Cliff said he talked to you last week, but I don't think he's talked to you—he said he hadn't talked to you since you returned.

Connally: That's correct.

President Nixon: I think it's good you're not going. I think for you to get—

Connally: I think it's better.

President Nixon: It'll look otherwise, well, you know what I mean, that—

Connally: And after all—

President Nixon: Yeah.

Connally: —it's not in my bailiwick, you know.

President Nixon: That's right. And so if you—could you see them if they come over to your shop?

Connally: Yes, sir. Yes, sir.

President Nixon: Fine, well—

Connally: Right away, sir.

President Nixon: —they'll come—

Connally: Anytime.

President Nixon: —they'll come across the street. All right, bye.

Connally: All right. Thank you.
